Grand Isle Louisiana. Grand Isle Police Chief Evans Dubois told WWL TV robbers went into a home, robbed a man at gunpoint and as they left they set the house on fire. One of the robbers jumped off a window 14 feet into the ground.
Dubois said robbers entered a home about 3:30am on Sunday. They demanded money and when the man refused to hand over the money the robbers shot the homeowner possibly twice in the stomach during the struggle.
The robbers got away with $900, shot the homeowner's dog dead when the dog bit one of the robbers and then to add insult to injury they burned his house.
DuBois said one of the robbers locked himself in the back room and he jumped out a back door window of the raised house.
Investigators do not know if the robbery was a random act or if the robbers knew who the victim was. The shooting victim was not named in the police report.
Officials said the shooting victim is in stable condition at University Hospital in New Orleans.
Arson investigators from Jefferson Parish and officials from the Louisiana Fire Marshal Office are at the crime scene.
