Iran’s supreme leader urges Muslim world to unite against Israel

It is dangerous and worrisome. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is issuing threatening statements against Israel. It seems as if Iran has decided to use the supreme leader to unite the nation against any foreign intervention and step up a calculated campaign against Israel and the United States.

While speaking to envoys and foreign dignitaries, the supreme leader said there were two important issues haunting the Muslim world, Jerusalem and an independent state for Palestine.

He urged the Muslim world to focus on these issues by putting aside internal differences, as it is high time to get rid of hegemonic powers.

Khamenei’s comments come at a time when both the countries are locked in rhetoric against each other. Both the states, Iran and Israel, have been threatening each other for the last couple of months, while the international community largely stands oblivious to the development.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak have been lobbying to attack military installations of Iran before the United States presidential election in November this year. However, they are not getting the required support from relevant quarters, but even then there are serious threats looming in the air of an all-out war between Iran and Israel.

In the last couple of weeks, Iran has stepped up its campaign against Israel, as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have regularly been issuing threatening statements against Israel. It seems as if Iran is inciting Israel for a military action against its nuclear facilities. It is dangerous and appalling. The world powers including the United States should take stock of the situation and urge leaderships of both the countries to exercise restraint. God forbid, if a war erupts between Israel and Iran, the whole region will face repercussions of the menace. War between these countries will also put the security and stability of the whole region at stake.

Official Iranian news agency IRNA quoted the supreme leader on Sunday as saying that leaderships of all Muslim countries should be watchful to attempts of covering Jerusalem and Palestine. Iran deems Israel as an illegitimate state in the heart of Arab land and accuses world powers to helping it against the Muslim world. Tensions between Iran and Israel are already high over the alleged nuclear program of Iran. Israel, US and European countries suspect Iran is developing nuclear weapons and if succeeds, the country can put the security and stability of the region at risk. The world powers - the US, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany - have been trying to convince Iran through dialogue to stop the uranium enrichment. However, they have not succeeded in their efforts yet.
