Wedding celebration turns violent when guest allegedly sends dog to attack bride

A man is being sought by Denver police accused of beating a bride on her wedding day, and then sending his roommate’s dog to attack her.

The man was attending the wedding reception of Brittany Schult-Cortez and Jorge Cortez-Trinidad at a relative’s home when he reportedly became furious with the DJ and left.

Joel Nevaraz, 21, said to be a friend, then purportedly returned to the home around 12:30 a.m. with a dog, which according to Schult-Cortez, he instructed to attack her.

Schult-Cortez said she tried to talk him down, walk him home. Nevaraz saw her husband jumped the fence. Nevaraz ordered the dog ‘Sic her Skylo. Sic her Skylo.”

Nevaraz is said to have a history of mental illness.

Cortez-Trinidad, 21, heard commotion outside, and when he stepped out he saw his wife being drug by her hair by our friend’s pit bull. But the police said the dog is not a pit bull and could not confirm its breed.

When Cortez-Trinidad tried to get rid of the dog from his new bride, it allegedly bit him three times on his thigh.

Nevaraz, reportedly stood nearby laughing as Cortez-Schultz says she was bitten, he hit her with brass knuckles. Nevaraz reportedly posted threatening messages on his Facebook page following the attack.

Authorities continue to look for Nevaraz as Schult-Cortez continues to be troubled. Schult-Cortez said Nevaraz wrote in a Facebook message to her that he was going to Boston to kill himself.

Nevaraz faces a felony charge of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.
