Interior minister Rehman Malik has said that Kamra Airbase and babusar tragedies were an inter-related conspiracy, pointing out at Northern Wazirstan. Talking to media at interior ministry on Thursday, he accused non-state actors of endeavoring to destabilize Pakistan, which would be foiled at all costs. He regretted that interior minister had quite an active part in ‘maintenance of law and order’ and ‘security-related issues’ before implementation of 18th amendment, but since then the law and order issue had been devolved to Provinces, while interior ministry has been limited to policy-making only. He lauded selfless and zealous sacrifices of Pakistani forces against the threat of terrorism, while the attack by identified terrorists on Kamra Airbase was also repulsed. He also announced of stringent security measures taken for the auspicious day of Eid-ul-Fitr, as terrorists could target prayer goers. Replying to a question, the minister said that the atrocity committed at Babusar Pass was not sectarian –related, but also an act of terrorism. “ We have repeatedly warned the people to avoid Babusar top for traveling while an excellent alternate of Karakoram Pass was also available, and warned masses not to fall prey to wily manipulations of nefarious elements”, he stated. He also announced his intentions of paying an official visit to Gilgit-Baltistan, and compensating the kin of Babusar tragedy. The interior minister also assured that no military operation would be carried out in North Wazirstan, as had also been assured by COAS; especially over any dictation. “ Any such decision would be taken entirely by government of Pakistan, alone” he stated. Rehman Malik also said that Taliban elements hiding in Balochistan were enemies of the state, assuring that he would take stringent actions against these elements.
