Although not demonstrating strength in offensive power, Augsburg won its match in Wilhelmshaven 2-0.

The first half started slowly with Augsburg building from the midfield slowly, with some difficulty penetrating the Wilhelmshaven defence.

It took just short of 30 minutes for Augsburg to open the scoring. In the 28th minute Tobias Werner, who had the ball at the left side of the penalty box, put a precise ball into the five meter area. Newly acquired Aristide Bance moved onto the ball and delivered it into the net.

This is how the first half ended. The lead was deserved by Augsburg, even though not much was offered offensively, Augsburg maintained control of the game.

Augsburg continued to dominate in the second half, although Wilhelmshaven made the venture forward once in a while, they had difficulty getting past Augsburg's defence.

Shots on goal by the 70th minute were 11-6 in favour of Augsburg and that eventually took its toll, when Knowledge Musona doubled the score for Augsburg in the 78th minute. After a few combinations moving toward the Wilhelmshaven goal, the ball landed on the feet of Muson, who had no trouble putting it away from a short distance.

This win moves Augsburg into the second round of 32 teams and the first Bundesliga team to do so.

In other action today, FSV Frankfurt defeated Sonnenhof Grossaspach 2:1 and Eintracht Braunschweig defeat Luebeck 3-0.

Tomorrow sees the debut of Borussia Dortmund, SC Freiburg and VFB Stuttgart. Five matches will be played tomorrow all starting at 3:30 pm CET.
