Skooter reporting 08/17/12
Retired P-51 pilot Thomas O. Batey, 88, is admiring a shiny, silver Mustang, a look alike of the same warplane he flew in Italy during WWII, pets the aircraft's wing and laughs at what he now calls his luck. He will be among a group of WWII pilots marking a 67th reunion this weekend at the 33rd Wings Over Camarillo Airshow.
Organized by the Camarillo Wings Association, the show takes place Aug 18 and 19, Saturday and Sunday at the Camarillo Airport.
This year’s theme is “Youth in Aviation,” to educate and inspire pilots of tomorrow, Camarillo Wings Assocaition president Don Miller said. He plans to introduce the public to the Cherkertail Clan. There will be three planes said to be flown by the Checkertail Clan and these are: the P-40 Tiger “Shark Mouth,” Warhawk _P-47 Thunderbolt “Flying Jug,” and the P-51 Mustang will kick-off the event.
