Julian Assange

I think many people would agree that there is more involved than sexual criminal charges made against Assange in Sweden ; serious as they are.

His organization hacked into and posted thousands of secret emails on the web.

Step 1 for the USA to get hold of him and bring him to justice is to get him extradited to Sweden and tried and after sentencing nab him which rightly I believe is the ultimate goal.

The circumstances that have developed between the United Kingdom and Ecuador are over this devious Australian.

Sweden asked Britain for his extradition to face criminal sexual charges there. An extradition hearing was held and the judgement was that Assange should be extradited. Like all low-life he appealed and after losing the hearing jumped bail and holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.

A diplomatic spat has ensued with the British government requesting the Ecuadorian Embassy to hand Assange over so that he can be deported. The Ecuadorian government have refused and granted Assange political asylum.

The result is an impasse. If Ecuador bring him out of the embassy Assange will immediately be arrested and handed over to Swedish authority by the British in line with the extradition agreement they have with Sweden.

I see the Ecuadorian action as a clumsy undiplomatic decision taken primarily not against Sweden, but against the United States government.

Quite rightly the US want Assange to answer for the untold damage he did by posting thousands of top secret documents on the internet.

It seems on the face of it that the Ecuadorian government are being anti-American in their attitude and that does not bode well for the future.

Assange would have avoided all of this nonsense if he went straight to the Moroccan Embassy.

"untold damage"? "top secret documents"? Your post has no substance, more of your feelings on the matter than any basis in reality. I am not trying to be rude, just honest. Please look more into this situation before you start commenting on it. US documents leaked on Wikileaks are classified "secret", but not "top secret", and there is a difference, both in security issues and the number of people who have access to them. "Untold" here seems to mean that you are assuming damage will occur, but you haven't taken any time to investigate what consequences have come of these leaks. Assange has admitted that he may eventually have blood on his hands, but that the transparency and honesty makes it worth it. If you took any time to investigate the matter, you would know that government secrecy has so many horrific consequences that are well documented ("told", either as documents are declassified, documents are leaked, or "whisleblowers" speak out), and "untold", and that this severely overpowers any hypothetical problems you have with the consequences of leaked documents. You would also know that Assange has taken care to censor some of the documents that he thinks will make innocent people targets. Assange is no saint, and he is clearly an egotistical a**, especially in his treatment of women and his sexual insatiability, but he is no rapist, and Wikileaks is a very valuable service to the honest people of the world that he has helped provide at great personal risk. To your credit, at least you have identified the key issue as not about sexual assault, but in fact about the US govt trying to make an example out of Assange. If only you understood the overlaying geopolitical issues that make the US govt the "bad guys" in this particular scenario. Usually, the ones hiding from truth are the ones at fault. I understand the need for secrecy when planning strategy against an enemy, but in this case the US govt does not have the moral upper hand, and they are using secrecy to prevent people from realizing it. Please look hard into the issues, especially when you throw your voice into public forum as an authority. It's important that we all understand more, myself included. Best of luck.

Thank you for all comments. I am not an authority on the subject only commenting on the way things seem to be to me.
To an extent I am prejudiced as the thought of hacking gives me the horrors viz a viz news international.
Further whether US policies are deemed proper or not it is my preference to see them remain as the world power that they are. The prospect holds
more attraction than soviet style, chinese style or Moslem style governance to me.
