The Ecuadorean government has finally granted political asylum to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on Thursday despite of being threatened by the British government that they would extradicate him to Sweden by force. Assange has been accused of rape and sexual molestation in Sweden.
“We have decided to grant political asylum to him,” Ecuador's foreign minister Ricardo Patino said in a statement. “Asylum is a fundamental human right,” he added. However, the British government is not happy with the decission; they call it “regrettable.” The Swedish government also takes the decission as “unacceptable” reported the Associated Press.
