Newly crowned Womens’ Modern Pentathlon Olympic Champion Laura Asadauskaite arrived back home in Lithuania to a hero’s welcome.
Thousands of Lithuanian’s gathered at the Vilnius airport to salute their latest Olympic Champion when she stepped off the plane and was greeted by the Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskait. For those who couldn’t make it to the airport, this was shown live on National TV.
“This was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It makes me so proud to be Lithuanian, to see all these people come out and support me. I am so happy I made them all proud” stated the Olympic champion & mother of one.
Asadauskaite will also go to the President’s house to receive the national award of achievement.
Ever since her gold, Asadauskaite has had a lot of media attention, everyday TV & written media are asking for interviews for the new hero of Lithuania. “She will soon be one of the most recognisable people in Lithuania” said her coach & husband Andrejus Zadneprovskis.
After all this welcome attention, Asadauskaite will take a much deserved holiday in 2 weeks with her young baby and husband.
