President Yudhoyono thanks ASEAN leaders for resolving S. China Sea matter
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian President thanked ASEAN leaders for their efforts in finding a solution for the South China Sea issue during his state address delivered before the parliament, a day before the country`s 67th commemoration of Independence Day.
"We regret that the last ASEAN ministerial meeting failed to issue a joint statement on the South China Sea matter. However, owing to intensive and proactive diplomacy measures, ASEAN has now adopted a six-point agenda on the South China Sea," the president said in a state of the nation address before the Parliament here on Thursday.
He added that Indonesia continues to encourage ASEAN`s role in dealing with the several challenges the country has faced recently.
"Border disputes and conflicts related to territorial claims are still rampant in the ASEAN and Asia Pacific regions," Yudhoyono added.
