A group of militants attacked one of Pakistan’s most heavily protected nuclear air bases in Kamra located 40-miles from Islamabad and, in the encounter, 6 terrorists were killed while a Pak soldier also lost his life.
The early morning gunfight allowed the militants to enter the base and fire a number of rocket propelled grenades which have reportedly damaged one of the aircraft.
The gunfight lasted for several hours.
This has been reported in telegraph.co.uk of dated 16th of August 2012.
The nuke facilities are located in the premises of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex.
This daring attack was the third one on this air base in the last 5-years – a suicide bomber struck in December-2007 followed by a second one in August-2009. 8 persons died in the second attack in which the bomber was a man on a bicycle.
There are a number of American F-16 fighter jets in the airbase apart from around 100 nuclear warheads.
In case these nuclear warheads fall into the wrong hands or destroyed in fires, it would lead to dangerous consequences for the global community.
