Elvis Presley

It's been 35 years since Elvis Presley passed away on August 16, 1977. On Wednesday night fans were camped out at Graceland for the usual annual candlelight vigil. Tonight the fans were greeted by the King's ex Prisciila and their daughter Lisa Marie. Priscilla said that "this is something that Elvis would never ever have believed could have taken place here." Lisa Marie also spoke to the fans saying "I've always avoided this because I felt that it would be too emotional but I really felt it was important to come down here tonight. I love you very, very, very much.

With many of our favorites we tend to remember what we were doing at the time that we hear about their deaths. On August 16, 1977, I remember being a passenger in my Dad's Buick with both my Mom and Dad. One of the local AM stations was playing several Elvis songs in a row. I made a flip comment that they don't usually do that unless someone died. Then, of course, the stunning news came over the airwaves about his death. It was very strange thinking that the King of Rock and Roll was gone. I was more of a Beatles was only three years later that John Lennon was murdered. I remember many saying that the Beatles were responsible for many changes in rock and roll music and no one can deny that. Still, would there have even been Beatles if Elvis hadn't burst on to the scene the way he did in 1956? The King may be gone but judging by the crowds and tributes pouring in on the 35th anniversary of his passing, he is not forgotten.
