On Wednesday, a tour bus carrying 9 people crashed at the Brassknocker Hill and the A36 Warminster Road junction; sending all 9 people aboard to a hospital. The accident occurred at around 11:30 in the morning when the said bus fell 30ft down a viaduct; 2 out of 9 injured were reported in critical condition.
Authorities said the accident may have been caused due to heavy rain in the area. Among the passengers were musicians of an American punk band Baroness, introduced as Allen Blickle, Matt Maggioni, Peter Adams and John Baizley. The band headed to the Southampton’s Talking Heads venue after playing a gig in Bristol when their coach fell down an embankment.
Following the horrifying fall, two out of nine people aboard the vehicle, the driver and a passenger, were left trapped inside the wreckage. The fire fighters struggled to rescue both the men, who suffered pretty serious injuries, said authorities. The Highways Agency, local police and fire fighters would be seen rushing to the accident scene almost immediately.
It is believed the tour bus, a black and red coach, came to a standstill after coming down the hill at the T-junction; breaking a safety barrier on the A36. A witness said apparently the coach went through the traffic signals and ended onto the road below after skidding through a fence. Due to the impact, all of the window-glasses were smashed with front of the coach completely caved in; lot of damage was caused to the vehicle’s back too.
The paramedics immediately treated several people with serious injuries, right there at the scene while the most serious ones were shifted to Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital. The other seven people were brought to Bath-based Royal United Hospital.
