Sylvester Stallone opened up publically for the first time about the tragic death of his son on ABC. In an interview, which aired Tuesday on “Good Morning America,” the 65-year-old actor talked about his son, Sage, who died on July 13 at the age of 36.

The “Rocky” star told GMA that he is trying to get back to living his life after the unexplained death of his son last month. During the interview, Sylvester Stallone said: “It's very very tough. But if you have good friends and your family’s support, it's just something that’s a horrible situation but ... hopefully it will heal and you try to get through it but it's something that is a reality in life.”

Stallone appeared on ABC's “Good Morning America” to promote the upcoming movie, "The Expendables 2," which hits theaters Friday. The legendary actor sat alongside fellow cast members, including Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Statham, during the segment on the morning show.

He said that work helped him deal with the loss, explaining, "It's important to get back and try to start re-living your life. Otherwise you can go into a spiral."

Stallone attended the U.K. premiere of "The Expendables 2" in London on Monday. He was accompanied by his current wife Jennifer Lavin and three daughters. Appearing on the red carpet at the London premiere was also a big step for Stallone, who previously excused himself from the promotion for the movie in the United States.

The eldest son of Sylvester Stallone, who appeared with his father in the 1990 film "Rocky V," was found in his California home by his housekeeper on July 13. The exact cause of his death is not yet known but law enforcement authorities suspected it to be due to drug overdose.

Sage’s mother revealed that her son had undergone extensive dental treatment in the week before his death and she believed that he might have taken too many painkillers causing the accidental overdose. The exact cause of death cannot be known whether they played any role in the death until autopsy results come out.

After his son's funeral, Sylvester Stallone went on a holiday to the Mediterranean on a hired yacht with his family. Sage was the second of two sons the actor had with his first wife, Sasha Czack.

Sylvester Stallone stars in the new action movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Liam Hemsworth.
