At least five people including two high profile figures were killed in land mine blast in Afghanistan, said local officials at Kabul and sources from across the border on Monday.
According to the local officials the incident took place in the Northern province of Takhar when a vehicle carrying district mayor Abdul Aziz and member of provincial peace council , Haji Hashem Khan hit a land mine planted on a road side.
“The Vehicle blew up with explosion and five people were killed on the spot” said the official adding that both the high ups were amongst the killed ones.
No one claimed responsibility of the incident yet the officials were of the opinion that Taliban militants might be involved in it.
Northern provinces of Afghanistan are considered to be more safe than the eastern and southern areas, yet in the recent days an increase has been noticed in the incidents of extremism especially with the supporters of Afghan President. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
