1964 - Mickey Mantle hits home runs from both sides of the plate at Yankee Stadium in a 7-3 NY win over the Chicago White Sox.
1969 - The Boston Celtics are sold for $6M which was a record at the time. It's estimated that the franchise is now worth $482M.
1973 - Jack Nicklaus won his 14th major breaking the record set by Bobby Jones 50 years earlier. He won the PGA Championship by one stroke over Bruce Carmpton.
1994 - MLB Players went on a strike that lasted 232 days. The strike effectively ended the 1994 season and did what two world wars could not...cancelled the World Series.
