Again, notorious fraudster arrested by special fraud unit (SFU) police in Lagos

By Emmanuel Udom

Chinedu Ezeona, 27, claims to be a contractor resident in Enugu, southeastern Nigeria. But, police detectives in Lagos are insisting that the youngman is a notorious fraudster, who specializes in defrauding single ladies of their hard earned money, under the pretext of either looking for husbands for the ladies, or assisting them in securing admission abroad.

Tunde Ogunsakin, police commissioner, special fraud unit, Ikoyi, Lagos told journalists on Friday that Ezeona, a.k.a David Obiora Anikwe, was earlier arrested and paraded May 3, 2012 for fraudulently obtaining N15.6 million (about $96,800) under the pretence of obtaining an American Visa for a victim.

According to the police chief, the suspect is a notorious and an unrepentant fraudster, who operates around Enugu and Lagos, under the pretext of working for the American Embassy in Nigeria. When he was quizzed by police detectives at SFU in Lagos, May this year, he was said to be hostile and uncooperative, even as the case was eventually charged to court, where he regained his freedom, having secured and meeting his bail conditions, Ogunsakin said.

But, the build-up to his latest arrest and subsequent parade, began when the suspect allegedly connived with one Obioma Agu of Obitex Costmetic Ventures and Sam Ufomadu to dupe a lady of a whooping N4.9 million (about $30,500), under the pretext of securing admission into American University for her. The lady was brainwashed and cajoled into parting with her money, when the suspected fraudster dangled a complementary card, introducing himself as a senior system analyst with the American Embassy in Abuja.

The SFU police chief said, it might interest you to know that the suspected, after collecting the money from the lady hacked into a two foreign (phone) numbers 19406031528 and 19406049866, which he claimed belonged to Atlanta University and used them to contact the victim on two occasions, so as to make his activities look genuine.

According to CP Ogunsakin, the suspect is a pathological fraudster who has engaged in serial fraudulent practices for quite sometimes, using various exotic cars with diplomatic plate numbers and the American Embassy complimentary cards to defraud mostly single ladies, either desperate for marriage or intending to travel abroad for further studies.
