Pearl Uppal quits Smile Group

Pearl Uppal, Co-Founder and CEO of Smile Group’s e-commerce flash sales business Fashion and You has put in her papers. Though Uppal was unavailable for comments at the time of filing this report, industry sources have confirmed the news.

Uppal had partnered with Harish Bahl, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Smile Group to launch the online retail venture in early 2010. According to sources, post her transition from the operating role, in the capacity of Co-Founder and shareholder, she will continue to remain involved in building Fashion and You going forward.

Prior to this, Uppal was the Director- Sales of Yahoo India.

Another development that has taken place recently at Smile Group is that of Gaurav Kachru quitting. Kachru, who was earlier the Chief Executive and Co-Founder of Smile Group’s daily deal site Deals and You, left the group to start his own venture. Kachru is Uppal’s husband.

Smile Group has announced Ryan Valles as the new CEO of Deals and You. There is no confirmation on who will be heading Fashion and You.

Fashion And You has been looking for a CEO since its co-founder Pearl Uppal left in June this year, shortly after her husband, Gaurav Kachru, quit as the CEO of another Smile Group company Deals And You. He was replaced by Ryan Valles.
