Olympics athletes are sporting some pretty interesting patriotic nail art to show their competitive and national spirit at the London 2012 Olympic Games…

Admittedly, if you’re going to attempt your own patriotic American Nail Art, the stars and stripes of Old Glory would be quite challenging.

However, Hyleas Fountain who competes in the Women's Heptathlon for Team USA, took the middle ground by painting her nails red, black (unless that’s a very dark midnight blue!) and white, with something that sort of looked like a stylized version of the American flag – you be the judge.

On the other hand, Russia’s flag is a little easier to manage as a manicure, as seen on Olga Kurban, who participated in the Women's Heptathlon High Jump on the Russian team. She sported white, turquoise and red striped nails as well as a ring on her left hand with the Olympic rings in the colors of the Games’ five-ring logo.

But don’t expect navy blue, red and white on Australian athlete Annette Edmondson, who cycled the Women's Omnium Track Cycling Flying Lap 250m Time Trial. The Aussie cyclist sported the green and the gold, based on Australia’s Golden Wattle emblem.

Another cyclist, Laura Trott of Great Britain, did however sport the British Union Jack on her nails as she competed in the Women's Team Pursuit Track Cycling qualifier at the Velodrome on August 3.

Czech athlete Jirina Ptacnikova also proudly wore the red, white and blue of her country, participating in the Women's Pole Vault, while Tennis player Angelique Kerber and Volleyball player Laura Ludwig of Germany wore the black, red and gold of the German flag.

Danish Henning Sundwell and his wife Lis attending the Games showed their patriotic pride with the striking flag of Denmark painted on their toe nails as they paraded around in the Olympic Park in their red clothes.

Similarly, nails on athletes also displayed the five-ring Olympic rings emblem, as found on Amy Oliver of Great Britain who is on the Women's Archery Team.
