01. Indonesian Telkom-3 satellite lost in space: Telkom

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Telkom-3 satellite owned by Indonesian telecommunication services company Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) has been reported lost, hours after it was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 2:31 AM Jakarta time on Tuesday.

The company will not be giving detailed information about the incident, Slamet Riyadi, head of Corporate Communications and Affairs (HCCS) at Telkom said.

"We are still coordinating and gathering information about the incident," Slamet told ANTARA News.

The Telkom-3 satellite was carried by a Russian-made Proton-M rocket, along with a Russian Ekspress-MD2 satellite. The Telkom-3 was scheduled to reach the Briz-M upper stage on Tuesday at 11.44 am, and the Express MD2 stage at 12.14 pm Jakarta time.

02. No conflict between KPK and police

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Presidential spokesperson Julian Aldrin Pasha has denied any conflict between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the National Police (Polri) in connection with the investigation into alleged corruption during the procurement of driving simulators.

"What needs to be underlined is that there is no conflict between KPK and Polri with regard to the investigation. During the beginning of the case, there was a misunderstanding between both sides, but it has been discussed and sorted out. Now both the KPK and Polri are working together in the case of Traffic Police Corps (Korlantas)," he said here on Tuesday.

Julian added that the decision by KPK and Polri to jointly investigate the corruption case showed their commitment to fighting corruption in the nation.

03. Aceh sets up counter terrorism unit

Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - The Aceh province has become a strategic hideout for a terrorist group, Governor Zaini Abdullah said in a statement on Wednesday.

It should be kept in mind that Aceh is one of the strategic areas used as a hideout by a terrorist group, Aceh regional secretary Teuku Setia Budi said while reading a statement from the governor at a function organized to set up the Terrorism Prevention Communication Forum (FKPT).

The governor also pointed out that the mountainous region of Aceh Besar district had been used as a base for the military training of terrorists in March 2010.

Fortunately, the training activity was stopped and some of the terrorists arrested, but that does not imply that the terrorism movement in Aceh has ceased to exist, Governor Abdullah said.

04. Remittance of RI migrant workers reaches US$3.39 mln

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The remittance sent home by Indonesian migrant workers up to June this year has reached US$3.39 million or about Rp32.4 trillion, according to a manpower official.

This was stated by Deputy Head of the National Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers Overseas (BNP2TKI), Lisna Y Peoloengan here on Wednesday.

She said that the US$3.39 million amount came from Indonesian migrant workers in four placement regions of Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe and Australia, based on the records of the Indonesian central bank, Bank Indonesia (BI).

The manpower agency deputy said remittance from Indonesian migrant workers in the Asia Pacific region totaled US$2.017 billion, the Middle East and Africa US$1.217 billion, the United States US$135.320 million, and Europe and Australia US$20.224 million.

05. President holds meeting on financial memorandum

06. PLN to build 30 steam power plants

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State-owned electricity company PT PLN Persero is planning to build 30 steam power plants with an individual capacity of 20 megawatts (MW), according to PLN director Nur Pamudji.

"The deals will be signed next month," he said here on Wednesday, adding that the construction of steam power plants would require an investment of Rp3.6 trillion.

The EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) will be auctioned under a regular scheme and it requires compliance. Later, the power plant construction will be fully funded by PLN, Nur explained.

07. ITB electric car to be unveiled on National Technology Awakening Day

Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) will unveil an electric car at the science and technology creativity carnival on the 17th National Technology Awakening Day (Hakteknas).

The institute`s rector, Akhmaloka, said here on Wednesday that the car would be designed and fully assembled at the institute, but the vehicle's battery would be imported from China.

"ITB experts from the faculty of electrical and informatics engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, as well as fine arts and design will be involved in the process," he added.

"We will produce our own battery for the car in the future by involving the institute's faculty of mathematics and natural sciences, as well as high-technology industries," Akhmaloka stated.
