PESAHWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) FATA chapter has called upon Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor to make necessary amendments in the proposed draft of FATA Local Government Regulation 2012, saying that it should be promulgated after seeking input from all stake holders.
Speaking in a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Ameer JI FATA, Haroon ur Rasheed said that the proposed FATA Local Government Regulation 2012 was a good step to bring reforms in tribal region but it has so many flaws as he alleged that under the Regulation all jurisdictions has been drawn from Governor and enjoyed by the Political Administration of FATA.
“The draft should be faired in accordance with Article 140-A of the Constitution which clearly identified all steps essential for a good local government system. Political, administrative and financial powers should be devolved to public representatives to ensure true form of local government in FATA,” he added.
He further said that FATA should be declared as ‘tax free-zone’ as its trade and economy has been badly stricken by militancy and insurgency during the last four years.
Mr. Haroon lamented that the Regulation has poor sketch of Local government system which could not redress basic problems faced by the tribal people at grass route level.
“Separate agency council should be established in each of seven tribal agencies and department of education, health and agriculture should be come under its jurisdictions,” he demanded.
He also said that special monitoring committees should be constituted to have proper check on all government departments working in FATA.
