Washington D. C. The Washington Nationals claimed Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Cesar Izturis off the waiver wire on Monday.
32 year old Izturis played 57 games with the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2012 baseball season with a batting average of .235 with two home runs and 17 runs batted in.
Izturis will replace injured ulitity infielder Mark DeRosa who was placed on the 15 day disabled list with an abdominal strain on his left side.
The Washington Nationals do not have shortstop Ian Desmond who is not playing due to an oblique injury. Second baseman Danny Espinosa has taken Desmond 's position at shortstop. Infielder Steve Lombardozzi has taken Desmond's position at second base.
The Milwaukee Brewers have recalled from their minor league team in class AA baseball Huntsville Stars Jean Segura.
Segura was accquired by the Brewers in the trade from the Los Angeles Angels who received pitcher Zack Grienke in return.
