Pistorius qualifies for 400m semi-finals

The South African sprint runner , Oscar Pistorius Known as the "Blade Runner" became on Saturday , August 4 the first double amputee in history to participate in the Olympics and the first athlete to compete in Paralympics and Olympics.

Pistorius , who lost both legs at 11 months due to a congenital defect , managed to qualify to the semifinals of the men's 400m heats which will be played tomorrow (Sunday) at the London 2012 Olympic Games , reports Associated Press.

"I found myself smiling in the starting block. Which is very rare in the 400 meters." "It was just an amazing experience," "It's moments like this when you step back and say, 'Wow, I've been blessed by the Lord.'" Pistorius told reporters after the race.

Pistorius , 25, who competing with two prosthetic legs received a massive ovation from 80,000 fans at the Olympic Stadium in London today as he placed second behind the Dominican Luguelin Santos (45.04).
