Goals by Filigno and Sinclair shoot Team Canada into semi-final
After the initial testing by both sides, Canada started to dominate the match. In the 11th minute, Filigno took the ball in midair in a volley, off a corner kick by Schmidt and easily beat Bardsley. The early goal silenced the spectators at Coventry stadium.
Great Britain's Little brought down Canada's Scott approximately 20 meters from the goal. The subsequent free kick was taken by Christine Sinclair. Sinclair found an open space in the GB wall and calmly put the ball in the right corner of the net. Her 140th goal for Canada doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute.
The remainder of the half saw both sides trying quick counters, but the score remained tied at halftime.
