Barbara Walters Addresses the Class of 2012

Report By: Nina Rai

London, 03 Aug, 2012

Barbara Walters’ recent disparaging remarks against the British monarch’s face and her fashion sense has not gone down well with her admirers world wide who have come out in full force to hit back at the blunt television hostess.

Recently discussing the London 2012 Olympic Games on air Barbara Walters, 82 the host of ABC’s The View had launched an audacious attack on Queen Elizabeth II. She had jibed about the octogenarian monarch sporting a perpetual “sour face.”

Not satisfied with that jibe, the irrepressible Walters even criticized the Queen's choice of peach dress and fascinator. According to Walters the 86-year-old monarch had dressed "like something out of the 19th century" during the recent Olympics’ opening function.

While conceding that the James Bond skit in which the British monarch had participated along with Daniel Craig was indeed ‘funny’ the television hostess felt the Queen herself would definitely need some cheering up. This, especially, after seeing the monarch’s stern demeanor at the rest of the ceremonies.

Walters said "Let me tell you my thing with the Queen. "I did agree that the whole thing with Daniel Craig was funny... but let me tell you my problem with her... this is a woman who does not know how to smile."

However, her blunt tirade had not ended there. Walters felt that Her Majesty did not even alter her facial expression while hearing a rendition of God Save the Queen by young children. It was in this context, Walters said: "Now, would it have killed this woman, this Queen, to go...", pulling a fake smile.

Then she opined bluntly: "It's such a sour face." Walters had even slammed the monarch’s fashion sense adding: "She is 86, but she dresses like something out of the 19th century… The pink dress with the pink plume, but then the black gloves and the black bag -- what does the Queen keep in that bag anyway? She never changes."

These down right insulting remarks against the British Monarch by Walters has naturally not been taken lightly by internet users one of who queried: 'Who is Barbara Walters to criticize the Queen for being stoic during the opening ceremony?

One Twitter user posted: 'Barbara Walters - Leave the #Queen alone. She has more class in her little finger than you have in your whole life. Have some respect,' added another.

Twitter user ‏@Nclaudemelb posted: '@theviewtv barbara walters is an outdated & insensitive woman. Her comments about the Queen is disrespectful. Barbara should retire.'

One reader Lisavetta from Ottawa hit out at Walters: Baba Wawa is just envious that our lovely Queen can still utilize her facial muscles to create expressions, be they smiles or frowns. Baba, who is only three years younger than Her Majesty, has had too many cosmetic procedures, botox injections and surgeries to be able to do the same.”

While Laurie from Little Town, USA wrote: ‘I guess if you can put on the right outfit and make a plastic, fake smile, that makes you someone worthy Bobwa. Maybe Bobwa, the Queen wasn't happy with your hack counter cronie, co-libwal campaigner Boris, the mayor, another fake. Maybe the Queen didn't make it political enough to suit you Boobwa.’

However to be fair to Walters, she had her supporters as well. Said vbh29: That queen does nothing. why does she need to be respected? because she’s “royalty”? i applaud Barbara for telling it like it is.

I can't believe there is so much ignorance. Maybe people should read about Her Majesty before saying "why should we respect her?"

You have a point there Katie. If Queen
Elizabeth is a monarch, her position
ought to be respected. Thanks for
the feedback.

Barbara Walter would call Gabby Douglas ugly. Barbara is entitled to her opinion of Queen Elizabeth and get her attention for her show The View.
