Skooter reporting 08/03/12
As an international peace envoy for Syria, former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan is quitting, aggravated by "finger-pointing" at the United Nations while the armed rebellion against President Bashar al-Assad becomes more and more gory.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced in New York that Annan had said he would leave at the end of the month. The U. N. Secretary General said Kofi Annan deserves a deep admiration for the selfless way in which he has put his remarkable skills and reputation to the most difficult and potentially thankless of assignments.
Annan's mission, was focused on an April ceasefire that never materialized, has appeared inappropriate as fighting has deepen in Damascus, Aleppo and elsewhere.
