The Olympic host country Great Britain hockey team came into this game as favorite having ranked 4th while Pakistan men's hockey team is said to be ranked No. 8th in the world.

Great Britain vs Pakistan came out to be exciting game of sticks having both teams with identical records of 1 win and 1 draw each, coming into their 3rd preliminary matchup, but it will boil down to making opportunities that count.

After a great 4-1 win in the opening game against Argentina last Monday, Great Britain will be looking to get back to winning ways against Pakistan, having 2-2 draw with South Africa in their last pool match. Great Britain vs Pakistan last encountered at the Sultan Aslan Shah Cup in Malaysia last June when Englishmen came from behind to beat Pakistan 2–1 score.

Players to watch Great Britain is forward Barry Middleton and midfielder Ashley Jackson both scored a goal in second half which the British dominated. Middleton scored 2 goals against Argentina in the opening while Ashley Jackson scored all the 2 goals in draw game against South Africa.

Pakistan team however pride themselves as the only hope for Olympic medal for their country. Players to watch for Pakistan will be Captain Sohail Abbas and centre forward Rehan Butt. Abbas so far has two goals on this Olympic hockey tournament while Imran Muhammad scored in 2-0 win last Wednesday against Argentina. However Sohail Abbas has 346 goals in his career, sets a world record of highest hockey goal scorer and highest ever in Olympics.

It's gonna be a do or die for Pakistan with a win advance them to quarterfinals, “Game against Britain is our most important match of the tournament so far,” said Khawaja Junaid, Pakistan’s coach. “If we win it then our chances of qualifying for the semifinals will get a huge boost,” he added.
