Annan Steps Down As Syria Envoy

This announcement was absolutely inevitable. Former United Nations Chairman Kofi Annan has resigned from his post as the special envoy to Syria. It was outrageous that he was assigned as the envoy since he was the last person that could have brought about peace between the Assad regime and the rebels.

You have to remember that the largest atrocities in Africa occurred when Annan was the UN Chairman (Rwanda, Uganda, Nigeria, Angola, Sudan, Congo). How was he going to bring about peace when he fostered havoc?

Nevertheless, the United Nations must find another person that can somehow foster an agreement between the regime and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) before the entire country of Syria is destroyed.

Totally agree with you here. I am not sure that anyone in the UN can broker a peace though. This conflict is so far out of hand and is now into the revenge and kill state.

Assad, supported by his buddies in Iran, considers the SFA as a terrorist group supported by Al Qaida and others in the region.

It's a job without a positive outcome. Until China and Russia do the right thing and stop supporting a mass murderer, no one will be able solve the crisis.
