The National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Trust Board has been appointed.
Making the appointment, Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu says the appointments are with immediate effect.
“In pursuant to Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution of the NICE Public Trust, Hon. Moses Kunkuyu Kalonga Shawa, MP is pleased to announce the appointment of the new Board of Trustees for the National Initiative for Civic Education Public Trust,” a press release dated 27 July 2012 reads in part.
The appointees are Mrs. Martha Kwataine, Mrs. Susan Kaunda, Mrs. Bertha Sefu, Right Reverend Francis Kaulanda, Sheikh Idrissa Muhamad, Traditional Authority Kwataine, Mr. Kizito Tenthani and Mr. Justin Dzonzi who sits on the NICE Board as Trustees.
The Secretary for Information, the Secretary for Local Government & Rural Development and the Executive Secretary for Malawi Human Rights Commission are Ex officio members.
The Minister asserts that the appointments have been done after a thorough consultation.
Writes Kunkuyu in the statement: “In line with Article 5 of the constitution of the Trust which provides that the Board shall be appointed in a transparent manner from a list of officials nominated by the civil society organizations registered in Malawi following the public call for nominations….”
The previous board appointed by former president had among others Mabvuto Bamusi, Pastor Frank Chirwa, Tujilane Chizumira and Traditional Authority Mkumbira.
President Mrs. Joyce Banda who ascended to power in April this year following the death of Professor Bingu Mutharika, dissolved the Bingu Mutharika-appointed board.
