Rich and Poor
I filmed this in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Americans, having undermined Indonesia's President Sukarno, put General Suharto into power in Indonesia in 1965. The Americans encouraged Suharto to give contracts to American companies. While at the World Bank in 1993, America's Lawrence Summers, commissioned a study that encouraged government officials in countries like Indonesia to suppress trade unions. The American trained generals in Indonesia have helped supress trade unions. In the late 1990s, according to the book The Chastening, by Paul Blustein, Lawrence Summers, along with Paul Wolfowitz, pushed for regime change in Indonesia. Suharto was toppled, possibly because he was not giving enough contracts to Americans. Indonesia is now run by American trained General (retired) Yudhoyono. The Indonesian government still spends very little on health, housing or education for poor people. The rich in Indonesia pay very little in tax.
