’s rep is not happy with a tabloid’s story that says the former child star is a drug addict and has just six more months to live. She has defied the rumors in a fierce-worded statement, calling the claims "ridiculously fictitious" and "insulting."
The 31-year-old actor, who played the iconic role of Kevin McCallister in the 1990 blockbuster film "Home Alone", made headline in the National Enquirer’s latest issue, which claimed that the actor had been spending $6000 a month on hard drugs and pills and his condition had worsened after his longtime ex-girlfriend, , dumped him nearly a-year-and-half-ago and later began dating Ashton Kutcher. The tabloid claimed that Culkin was a big time drug addict and had only six more months to live.
“He’s been hooked for a year and a half, and his drug of choice is either heroin or oxycodone," the tabloid quoted a source as saying. "Mac is surrounding himself with junkies and lowlifes. It’s a real tragedy.”
Culkin’s publicist, Michelle Bega, is furious over the speculations and called them reckless, thoughtless and irresponsible.
“The report in the National Enquirer that Macaulay Culkin is addicted to heroin and assorted hallucinogenics is not only categorically without merit, but it is also impossibly and ridiculously fictitious,” Bega told the Daily Mail.
She went further to claim that such rumors can prove to be destructive for the actor’s career.
“We beseech the responsible media to consider the source and its reputation and to please not perpetuate this destructive and insulting story by pursuing it any further," she said.
The source quoted in National Enquirer claimed that he had witnessed Culkin’s drug taking, “which has escalated over the past year and a half to the point where he needs serious help." The tabloid said that his friends feared for his life and believed that if he didn’t enter rehab, he could be dead in the next six months.
The source also said that Culkin even overdosed once, according to a report by Radar Online. “It should have been a wake-up call, but it didn’t seem to have any effect on him. Mac is still partying hard. I pray that he finds the courage and strength to clean up before it’s too late.”
Culkin shot to instant fame after starring in “Home Alone” and its sequel, but has done little acting since then.
