Recently, rumors began to surface that Emma Watson was being considered for the role of Anastasia Steele in the film adaptation of widely-popular adult novel “Fifty Shades of Grey”.
The “Harry Potter” actress, however, has denied the casting rumors, telling Entertainment Weekly that she is not in negotiations to play the coveted role and hasn’t even read the script of the hotly-anticipated movie.
“I haven’t read the book, I haven’t read a script, nothing,” Watson told Entertainment Weekly in an interview. “There are so many movies you become attached to when I’ve literally never even received a phone call. It was the same way with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo– I never even saw a script!”
Emma Watson has her hands full currently. The former child actress recently finished filming Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Bling” and is currently working on Darren Aronofsky’s “Noah”. Her new film, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” will hit theatres this fall.
The 22-year-old Hollywood actress, who will perhaps forever be known as, told Entertainment Weekly that ever since reports of her getting a role in “Fifty Shades of Grey” emerged online, some friends and family had asked her about it.
“I told them just because there are 60 articles on the Internet doesn’t mean it’s any less true than if there are three or four,” said Watson, adding, “The thing is I’m not going to go out there every time someone attaches me to a film to say no or release a statement.”
Ever since the film adaptation of E.L. James' massively successful erotic novel "50 Shades of Grey" was first announced, there has been speculation regarding the question of who's going to star in it. Since the novel has controversial content, Hollywood’s girl-next-door Emma Watson’s involvement with the BDSM-heavy flick has caused numerous eyebrows to rise in curiosity.
Others in the frame to play Anastasia Steele, the young graduate who gets swept into the world of BDSM with billionaire Christian Grey, are believed to be Elizabeth Olsen,, and Kristen Stewart.
All in all, whoever the lead role goes to, it will surely be a breakthrough film for the artist in Hollywood – after all, “Fifty Shades of Grey” has now sold 31 million copies worldwide.
