The platinum blonde hair, the red pouting lips, the loveliness, those curves, and the glittering, body-fitting apparel she covered them, that was Marilyn Monroe’s iconic image that lives on even though she has been gone 50 years.
Marilyn Monroe starred in more than 30 movies, but what echoes today is her style, which fascinates a whole new generation of younger women not familiar with her films. Her look is emulated by celebrities like the likes of Madonna, Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Nicole Kidman, Rihanna and Lindsay Lohan.
Get a copy of her 1955 famous film “The Seven Year Itch," where she played the role as a sexy neighbor who seduces a married man. Everything in the film looks out dated, except for Monroe. Particularly in her white halter dress, the fame "subway dress," in which she stood over a grill and let the breeze lift her skirts.
We have another famous look and this was in May 1962, just a few months before her death, Monroe notoriously sang "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden. She was in a floor-length casing of thin fabric with nothing underneath covered with rhinestones and fitting like a glove.
The "JFK Dress" as it was dubbed, was auctioned and sold for over $1.2 million, and the "subway dress" sold for $5.6 million, proof, if it was needed, of Marilyn's lasting appeal.
