It is expected to be one of the hottest technology launches this year but if you ask anyone, even the company that manufactures the products, the illustrious date is still very much unknown. Tech giant Apple is expected to release the latest iterations of its best selling smartphone and tablet, the iPhone and iPad and while competitor Samsung already has a good head start on the firm, with the release of its Galaxy SIII, users and techies alike are eagerly awaiting the release of the iPhone 5 and the iPad Mini.
Of course, as typical, Apple has kept the release date under wraps but according to sources, the release of the new devices may just happen in September. Of course rumours about nearly every aspect of these new devices have abounded, from what they will look like to their features but the release date has possibly been the most guarded but according to recent reports, the unveiling of the new devices is expected for September 12 with the products to go on sale shortly after.
According to Apple fan site, iMore, ‘credible sources’ have it that the release of the iPhone 5 which will apparently be referred to as the ‘iPhone’ and the new tablet, the iPad Mini, will be scheduled for Wednesday, September 12, in San Francisco with the devices to go on sale nine days after on Friday, September 21. Of course this is hardly official but the release and sale dates are pretty much in line with previous release dates. It is also believed that a new iPod Touch and iPod Nano will also be released; a welcome move after recent figures released by Apple showed that its pioneering mp3 music players were flagging in sales owing to the success of the iPhone and the iPad.
But while the rumour mill maybe spinning away, Apple has said that all this speculation is actually affecting the sales of current iPhone models, with sales of the smartphone dropping from 35.1 million units in the previous quarter to 26 million in the present one. Speaking about this, Apple's chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer said, “We're reading the same speculation about a new iPhone as you are, and we think this has caused some delay in purchasing,” while CEO said, “We try very hard to keep our product roadmap secret and confidential. We go to extreme activities to try and do that. That, however, doesn't stop people from speculating and wondering.”
Analysts have said that with the recent drop in sales, it is likely that Apple could push for an earlier release date of the iPhone 5 and the iPad Mini.
