The government said 84 people, mostly fishermen, were still missing after Typhoon Conson slammed into Luzon

Many people were surprised with the intensity of the wind accompanying the heavy rain that hit many provinces of Luzon last night. They didn't expect this bec. according to PAGASA ( the meteorolical agency of the country) the typhoon locally named Gener would not hit land. It would only travel north noth west parallel to the land area of northern Luzon until it exit the area of responsibility of the country in the direction of Taiwan. As a matter of fact PAGASA only gave signal number 1 to the provinces located at the extreme northern part of Luzon.

So this typhoon like wind that accompanied the heavy rain is totally unexpected to many people. The gustiness of the wind is at par with the wind intensity of a signal number 2 typhoon. Many are now thinking if PAGASA made another forcasting error like it did in the mid 2000. They forcasted during that time that the eye of a super typhoon would not pass on Metro Manila. But a popular veteran TV weather forcaster said the the eye of the typhoon did indeed passed on Metro Manila, based on international satelite feed and conditions on the ground. This error put many people at risked bec. they didn't prepared enough thinking that the condition of the weather that they will experience will not be severe.

Many people were perplexed . They are thinking right now if there is no storm signal in their provinces how come they experienced this storm like condition. The explanation of one of the senior metereologist of PAGASA is that the typhoon intensified the monsoon wind. This is hard to beleive bec this is the first time we experienced a condition like this, where a typhoon intensified a monsoon wind to become a typhoon like weather. What should we call this a Monsoon Typhoon? Should we give typhoon signals to this kind of weather condition? This will help local goverment units to decide if there will be calsses for school.

The truth was PAGASA failed to explain that bec. of the wide diameter of the storm its tail hit land areas in central and southern Luzon that caused the stormy weather on those areas. PAGASA should have given storm signals on those areas. This occurence was clearly seen on satelite feeds on TVs. Based on experience typhoon intensified rain fall not wind intensity of monsoons. Or maybe what we experienced is a new weather phenomena according to PAGASA.
