After the Queen Elizabeth parachuted with James Bond to the Olympic park for some opening ceremony excitement, first medals are at stake today in Olympic's schedule and results on Swimming, Archery and Shooting. China's Yi Siling wins the first gold of the London 2012 Olympics in women's 10m air rifle shooting. Sylwia Bogacka of Poland finished Silver while another Chinese Dan Yu got the Bronze. Sarah Menezes of Brazil has won gold in the women's judo under-48kg. Alexandr Vinokurov sprint in cyling men's Road Race on The Mall to claim gold for Kazakhstan. Colombia's Rigoberto Uran claimed silver, with Norway's Alexander Kristoff third, while Great Britain's ace Mark Cavendish, was unable to put himself in a position to attack. Korea shooter Jin Jong seals gold with his final shot in the men's 10m Air Pistol. Russian Arsen Galstyan wins gold in the men's -60kg competition on the opening day of Judo action. Saturday evening Olympic swimming schedule will be final and semifinals event of men's 400 I.M. (final), women's 100 butterfly (semifinals), men's 400 freestyle (final), women's 400 I.M. (final). men's 100 breaststroke (semifinals) and women's 4×100 freestyle relay (final). USA powerhouse swimmers Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte surely demand attention in men's head to head swimming in 400 individual medley. Great Britain finished 4th in medal tally with 47 medals (19 Gold, 13 Silver, 15 Bronze) behind China (51 Golds), USA (36 Golds) and Russia (23 Golds) in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The usual patern in big sporting events like the Olympics is the host country will lead the hauling of medals, as to how many percent spike is remain to be seen. Hosting the Olympic Games in London reportedly cost £9.3 billion ($14.46 billion) on building the venues and infrastructure, security and redeveloping the land for the Olympic Park. While the Games are privately funded, the venues and Park costs are met largely by public money.
