The former Indiana basketball player, Neil Reed, has died after collapsing in his Central California home. He was 36. Reed who coach Bob Knight was caught on video choking in 1997 and accused the latter in March 2000 of choking him during a practice in 97. When the video was shown supporting Reed’s claim, the Hall of Fame coach, who was known for his temper as well as his success, was placed on a zero-tolerance policy by then-Indiana University President Dr. Myles Brand.

Knight who became head coach at Indiana in 1971 and won three national championships was fired in September after a student accused him of taking hold of his arm.

Reed died Thursday morning of heart complications in Nipomo, California, Pioneer Valley High School Principal Shanda Herrera said.

Reed is survived by his wife, Kelly, and two daughters.
