Highway 12 through Jameson Canyon in Napa and Solano counties will remain closed during nighttime hours through Friday for retaining wall construction, state officials have announced.
The highway will be closed every night at 11 p.m. through July 27 and remain closed until 5 a.m the following morning, according to The Reporter newspaper in Vacaville.
The work is necessary for the widening of Highway 12 to four lanes, which is not expected to be completed until 2015.
Eastbound Highway 12 drivers heading to Interstate 80 are advised to use southbound Highway 29 to eastbound Highway 37, while westbound drivers on Highway 12 are advised to use Interstate 80 to westbound 37 to northbound Highway 29.
California Highway Patrol officers will help direct motorists around the road closure, the newspaper said.
Local access will be limited to Jameson Canyon residents and emergency vehicles.
Motorists should expect delays and pay attention to changeable message signs being installed by the California Department of Transportation, Caltrans.
More information about the work, including maps and pictures, can be found on the Caltrans website for the Highway 12 project, www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/12jamesoncanyon.
