The state of California had, in 1996, legalized use of drug as a medicine which encouraged dispensaries to open up. In fact, 17 states of the US apart from the District of Columbia allow medical marijuana even though it is considered as dangerous by the federal government.
They view pot as an illegal narcotic and has shut the dispensaries in many places.
The City Council plans to ban this practice as reported in telegraph.co.uk of dated 24th of July 2012.
Those who suffer from cancer or AIDS look upon pot as a medicine, but city leaders have been trying to control its use because these can easily find its way to meet the needs of recreational users.
Moreover, the smoke pollutes the surroundings and has a bad effect on children.
On a rough estimate, there are 750 registered dispensaries and nearly 200 illegal ones in Los Angeles which makes it the King of pot in California.
Once the ban is put into effect, there would be provisions for two to three persons to grow cannabis at home and share – but no storefronts.
