Edmonton Oilers sign their first round draft pick Nail Yakupov

Edmonton Alberta Canada. Edmonton Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini announced on Monday the team signed their first overall draft pick in the June 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) draft Nail Yakupov to a three year entry level contract.

Tambellini said "We're very happy to sign Nail to a three year contract. He's an extremely talented and passionate young man who we feel will be an integral part of our team for many years to come."

Yakupov is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds. Yakupov plays winger for the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League. Yakupov scored 31 goals and 69 points while playing 42 games last season.

When Yakupov's current contract expires he will be a restricted free agent.
