Activists trying to march towards Batasan resorted to reprisals with the Police

MANILA, Philippines- Police go after protesters who wreck a steel fence in an attempt to march towards the Batasang Pambansa Monday afternoon as President Aquino deliver his annual State of the Nation Address.

Most demonstrators, mainly from youth and urban poor sectors attempted to break in an attempt to march towards Batasang pambansa by forcibly breaking the fence that served as a security cordon in Commonwealth ave. wherein anti-Aquino activities started.

However, they've been immediately blocked by police and garbage trucks, one truck end with its windshield smashed trying to disperse protesters in attempting to march, followed by reprisals from the disgruntled cops. Stones and sticks are also hurled as reprisals from the riot police happened, followed by a retreat after calls from organizers ordering protesters to return to the activity.

There were casualties on that said incident, mainly protesters, most suffered blows from the cops as it tries to impose order on the said activity, meanwhile, a police car blocking their way also been smashed by agitated activists.

According to the activists, the said attempt is a show of strength as policemen tries to block their way in attempting to march towards the Batasang Pambansa wherein Aquino deliver his speech, while according to the Philippine National police, in its earlier statement, had deployed 6,000 officers, mainly from the provinces to secure the event as well as used garbage trucks, steel barricades and concrete barriers to block the flag-waving protesters, who jammed a highway about two kilometers (a mile) from the House of Representatives.
