The town of Vilaflor is south of the El Teide national park that spans the centre of the Canary island. Authorities said the fire had crept into the popular tourist park as fire crews battle to keep the flames away from populated areas. Some 800 firefighters are tackling the blaze, which broke out on Sunday and has spread with strong winds and high temperatures. More than 90 people were evacuated from other parts of the island on Monday. The worst fire ravaged across 50000 hectares in the eastern Spanish region of Valencia in July.
