San Diego -- As the horror of what happened at that movie theater in Aurora, Colo., sinks in, a video of suspected mastermind killer 24-year-old James Holmes has surfaced.
Seen in the above exclusive by ABCNews, Holmes is speaking at a science fair six years ago when he was only 18. The young, frail-looking student talks of "what takes place inside the mind as opposed to the external world."
He was giving this presentation at Miramar Community college in San Diego, Calif., explaining things like "temporal illusions," adding "over the course of the summer, I've been working with temporal illusion. It's an illusion that allows you to change the past."
That is just some of what the nervous teenager was saying during his presentation, all part of the subject of neuroscience, his area of study.
He also spoke on fantasy versus reality and what he called "the subjective experience."
At this seminar, Holmes was introduced as one whose "goals are to become a researcher and to make scientific discoveries." His personal life was described as a typical teenager who "enjoyed playing soccer, strategy games, with a dream of owning a Slurpee machine."
Did Holmes' reality and fantasies merge into madness delving into the subject of the mind during studies--resulting in that explosive maniacal murderous rampage last Friday night? Or did he go into that line of study because "temporal illusions" were already teetering on the brink of some deep dark conflict, with himself the ultimate experiment?

Meanwhile Aurora police Chief Dan Oates have assured the public that the danger in Holmes apartment has been greatly reduced as the bombs were disarmed. Neighbors had to be evacuated during the disarmament and are still not cleared to return to their homes.
Holmes will make his first court appearance on Monday after killing 12, including a 6-year-old girl and wounding 58 others during his deadly rampage at the Batman movie primiere on Friday night.
