NY man killed when SUV, motorcycle collide in NJ

A motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle collided on a highway in northwestern New Jersey killing the 47-year-old motorcycle driver David Melendez of Wallkill, New York. He was heading southbound on Route 23 in Wantage when the collision happened around 9:30 a.m. today.

The SUV driver, known only as a 33-year-old New York man, was speeding northbound on the highway in Sussex County and was turning left into a business when the accident happened. Melendez, who was hurled from his motorcycle, was declared dead at the spot a short time later.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
