Russian 'Pussy Riot' Punks Remain in Prison

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Mariya Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich are three members of ‘Pussy Riot’ an all-women Russian punk band and they have been sent to 6-months detention up to 12th January 2013 after they sang a protest song in Moscow's main Orthodox church.

This has been reported in bbc.com of dated the 21st of July 2012.

They have been charged with hooliganism and could get seven years in prison.

They had sung the song to protest Vladimir Putin in the run-up to Russia's presidential elections in March.

It seems these women had been arrested in February after they performed in Christ the Saviour Cathedral – this shocked the worshippers and have been in pre-trial detention ever since March.

Prominent Russian members of the cultural groups like actors, directors and musicians have requested the authorities to release the three women.
