And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.

-- Gen. 34:30 (KJV)

Jacob was afraid that the surrounding cities of the Canaanites would come against him in retaliation for his sons destroying the Hivite city of King Hamor. There is some question as to whether or not there was any retaliation against the sons of Jacob. In the Bible, there is no mention of a retaliation. In the Book of Jasher, there is a retaliation attack in which the sons of Jacob miraculously defeat thousands of Canaanites in battle. However, if you read the account from the Book of Jasher, then you will conclude that it is far-fetched. Therefore, from my research I deduce that there was no retaliation.

Numerical Analysis: The numerical pattern for this verse is 7,3,1,4. (7) To be complete, speak correctly to your children. (3) To stay in the Spirit, do not trouble your parents. (1) To follow God, do not allow for the perceptions of others to dictate your actions. (4) To stay in God's Word, do not focus on how deficient you are at this time.
