Sri Lanka's Pioneer Broadcaster Nimal Laksshapathiarachchi Passes Away

Veteran broadcaster and pioneer of Sri Lanka's private broadcasting, Nimal Laksshapathiarachchi has passed away today (20th) morning in Colombo.

According to sources, Laksshapathiarachchi had suddenly taken ill this morning and had been admitted to a private hospital in Colombo. He has passed away a short while later.

Laksshapathiarachchi is the founder of Sirasa FM, and Sirasa TV; stations that marked turning points in Sri Lanka's radio and television industry. His promising expedition continued establishing the 1st Infotainment television channel in Sri Lanka as a non-terrestrial channel on the Sky Digital Platform.

He also worked as the director general of Sri Lanka's state television network (Rupavahini).

In his last years, he was the brainchild of Hiru TV, a television station which was launched during the month of May. However he had resigned from the station few weeks before his death.
