Over the weekend, the UN Security Council met to vote on a draft resolution created by the Arab League which is asking for Bashar al-Assad to step down due to the violent crackdown on anti-government rebels. In the meeting, China and Russia vetoed the resolutions in fear that the West would use it as a stepping stone to start regime change in Syria.
