Syria: President Assad swears in new defence minister 19-07-2012

President Bashar al-Assad swears in Syria's new defence minister, in his first appearance on television since a bomb attack which killed three of Syria's top officials. It is the first time the president has been seen since a bomb attack on Wednesday which killed the former defence minister, Gen Daoud Rajha, Gen Hassan Turkmani, assistant to the vice-president and Assef Shawkat, the husband of Mr Assad's sister. Imad Fahd Jassem al-Freij (born 1 January 1950) is the Minister of Defense of Syria.
