Wildfire in Tenerife forces evacuation of residents

Tenerife is one of the seven islands in the Canary Island group and, a sudden wildfire has forced the evacuation of the residents of the town of Vilaflor which is located suth of the El Teide National park.

This has been reported in skynews of dated 18th of July 2012.

This park is in the center of the Canary Island.

The fire has so far destroyed more than 3,000-hectares of land and helicopters are having a tough time to keep the raging fire in check because of strong winds which are fanning the flames.

The nearby island of La Palma has also been affected and has engulfed another 500-hectare.

Forest fires have taken a heavy toll of Spain which has been experiencing the driest winter in the last 70-years.
